Are You DEAF???

It was Christmas 2005 when I received a ‘religious’ bookmark with the following inspirational inscription:

Though you hear nothing, He is speaking.

And seeing how I’ve just got to speak the Truth whenever I see error (that’s the way God’s made me) you’re just going to bear with me on this one. I mean, after all, we Christians should want nothing more than to discern God’s Truth from Satan’s lies. In fact it was after having read the inscription on the inspiring religious bookmark that I just had to speak out against the error in it’s spiritual one-liner…that is whenever the “He” is the “God Almighty”.

Let me show you what I’m talking about. Because by turning to the prophetic book of Revelation, we find this very profound statement concerning hearing” the “voice of God:

If any man have an ear, let him hear.” (Revelation 13:9 KJV)

Now that particular Scripture was taken from the last book, the 66th book, in the Holy Bible. It is emphatically dogmatic concerning the importance of “hearing the voice of God”.

Can I hear an “amen”? Amen!!!

In fact God Almighty has bunches more to say about “all” who might call themselves “Christians” but yet do not have an ear to “hear” Him speak. And in order to give you a small sampling of this amazing Biblical Truth, what do you say we start out at the front of the Holy Bible and work our way towards the back:

“But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:” (Deuteronomy 28:15 KJV)

“The word of the LORD also came unto me, saying, Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of a rebellious house, which have eyes to see, and see not; they have ears to hear, and hear not: for they are a rebellious house.” (Ezekiel 12:1-2 KJV)

If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.” (Malachi 2:2-3 KJV)

“What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.” (Romans 11:7-8 KJV)

So those were just a few of the many Scriptures that help us understand what God thinks about Christians who “hear nothing even though He is speaking”…and, of course, what God thinks about it isn’t very good:

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them, and the fire of the LORD burnt among them!

But looking to the more positive side of things, let’s take a look at the Scriptures that deal with what comes about for all those who earnestly seek to hear God speak:

“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.” (Deuteronomy 28:1-2 KJV)

“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he [Jesus] became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;” (Hebrews 5:8-9 KJV)

I [Jesus] am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd…But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.” (John 10:14-16, 26-29 KJV)

“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.” (John 12:46-50 KJV)

So, you tell me: do you think receiving “everlasting life” is a good enough reason to earnestly desire to hear the Voice of God?

Well even though Jesus is not here on earth to speak directly to us, we do have the Holy Spirit to communicate to us what the Son speaks to us from His Father:

“He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.” (John 14:24 KJV)

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John 16:13 KJV)

And having said all of that, do you really think the inscription on my bookmark – “Though you hear nothing, He is speaking.” – was from God up above?

Why do ye not understand my [Jesus] speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.” (John 8:43 KJV)

“Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.” (Matthew 13:13-16 KJV)

In closing let me just say that I am blessed! I hear the Voice of God (minute by minute, hour by hour, and day by day), and I obey the Voice of God, but the question still remains…
